Recent Work and Future Gigs – May 2014 to Summer 2015!

In May we went to the London Sangerstevne – an international singing event for community choirs. Enormous fun – and great to hear choirs from around Europe. We noted that we were unique in our repertoire… and we are now practiced in singing without music.

We recorded in St Botolph’s for two days to hopefully make enough tracks for our fourth CD – provisionally titled ‘Revelation’. It has however been difficult getting into the studio to edit. But it was ever thus!

Our 10th Anniversary Concert on Friday June 27th at St Botolph’s, was a triumph I thought. Old members came back. Some described this as the best ever concert by Quire and we had a reasonable sized audience too.

We completed the term with ‘Stars and Stripes’ – a concert by the small groups Octavia and Towering Angels for the Alresford Festival on Wednesday July 2nd. What a gig! A full house and some superlative singing too. We finished for the summer with two excellent gigs under our belt.

This Autumn rehearsals have restarted and on September 18th we have a World Music workshop by Maggie Hamilton, who collected a lot of the African and Hispanic music we sing. There’s another World Music workshop by Chris Rowbury, leader of several world music choirs, on October 23rd. All are welcome of course.

Octavia is taking part in a charity gig at the Headgate Theatre on November 1st and the two small groups will lay down tracks for a projected CD of their music at the beginning of November (working title ‘Angel Band’). Hopefully by this time we will have edited the main Quire recordings and be well on the way to issuing them on general release

Our Christmas Concert – ‘The Passing Year’ – is at St Teresa of Lisieux on December 5th.

Looking ahead to 2015 we are hoping to run a Gospel Workshop in January with Lauren Dove – as yet to be confirmed. While we don’t have a definite date for our Spring term gig, the small groups are taking part in a charity gig at Brightlingsea on March 28th and we have a Summer term gig booked for St Mary’s Hadleigh on Saturday May 16th.

Busy year once again. Readers of this blog who are interested in Quire should contact us of course. We are still rehearsing at Lion Walk Church on Thursday evenings from 7pm.
