On Friday October 13th Octavia joined other choirs in a concert for local choirs organised by Kingsland Church at 7.30pm. There was a huge audience (I mean, hundreds of people !!) We have been invited back and offered a longer part of a concert.

The full Quire sang at the Hull City of Culture Festivities .We travelled up on October 20th and had two very intensive days of concerts, coming back on the evening of October 22nd. Val Carter had been the mastermind in this epic tour and what superb results! We did a flash mob in Hull City Centre workshops, a concert and sang in a Sunday service.

On Friday November 17th Towering Angels sang with Colchester Waits at St Mary’s Peldon in a programme of lively medieval and modern music called Youth must have its dalliance!  (This provocative title is from the text of Henry VIII song ‘Pastime with good company’.) Early music instruments are loud!  But we coped and had a pretty full church thanks to sterling support from other Quire members.

On December 6th, Octavia and Towering Angels sang  for the Anglo French Society of Colchester  at Ireton Road Church in a programme called Fête de Noël at 7 30pm . Unusually for them, a small audience. But appreciative… and a chance to sing a French pop song of the 1940s – Petit Papa Noel!  That is world music, isn’t it?

We close the term with our Christmas Concert on Friday December 15th at Wilson Marriage School at 7.30pm.The programme is drawn from Europe only. A challenge for a choir that draws mostly on American, African and Asian sources.

and Future Gigs:
As for the Spring of 2018 – at the time of writing we have a definite gig in St Mary’s Church, Peldon for Octavia and Towering Angels on February 23rd – Winter Warmer – with Spirituals and Music Hall songs (interesting mixture!) and dates for the early part of 2018 but I will have to blog again in a couple of weeks to confirm our activities.

I do know we are thinking of inviting Ktema from Brittany to sing in Colchester with us in the summer to reciprocate our Brittany Tour in 2017.

If you are reading this blog for the first time and are interested in joining us or at least coming along for a sing, then we rehearse at Lion Walk Church in the church hall on Thursdays at 7pm. Contact the conductor: Bill Tamblyn on 01206 735 770 or email for further details.
