Bill’s Autumn update

The end of term concert for Quire was on Friday June 30th at 7.30pm in the Swinburne Hall of Colchester Institute. This is an old hunting ground for Bill as he was head of music and latterly professor of music there for just under 30 years. The programme – Breaking the Chains – was a celebration of songs of travel and the new freedoms brought by the liberated, both in North and South America , in Africa and even in Australasia. It so happens that some of these themes are incorporated into the programme for our visit to Hull in the autumn.

Autumn Term 2017

On Saturday October 7th we hope to have a presence at the Essex University Freshers’ Fair so as to advertise that there is a World Music choir in Colchester. On Friday October 13th Octavia will join other choirs in a concert for local choirs organized by Kingsland church at 7.30pm

The full Quire will sing at the Hull City of Culture Festivities. We travel up on Friday October 20th and have two very intensive days of concerts before returning on the Sunday. On Friday November 17th at 7.30pm Towering Angels will sing with Colchester Waits at St Mary’s Peldon in a programme of lively medieval and modern music called ‘Youth must have its dalliance!’ (This provocative title is from the text of Henry VIII song ‘Pastime with good company’).

On Wednesday December 6th at 7.30pm, Octavia and Towering Angels will sing for the Anglo French Society of Colchester at Ireton Road Church in a programme called ‘Fête de Noël’. We close the term with our Christmas Concert on Friday December 15th at Wilson Marriage School at 7.30pm.

If you are reading this blog for the first time and are interested in joining us or at least coming along for a sing, then we rehearse at Lion Walk Church in the church hall on Thursdays at 7pm.
